Compress a Word document (.docx) — without uploading it
Shrink a heavy .docx so it fits an email attachment or an upload form, without touching the text.
Compression runs in your browser; the document never leaves your computer.
Why Word documents get so large
Almost always it is the pictures: photos straight from a phone, screenshots pasted at full resolution, scanned signatures. Embedded fonts and thumbnails add more. A ten-page document can easily reach 30 MB.
Open the file and RoseLab shows what is making it heavy — how many images, how much space they take, and which embedded fonts can go.
How to reduce the size of a .docx
Pick a compression level — Light keeps more image quality, Balanced is the recommended middle ground, Maximum gets the smallest file — and click "Compress and download". Images are re-encoded at a sensible size, embedded fonts and extras are removed, and the file is repacked. Text, styles, tables and layout are not changed.
At the end you see the before and after sizes. If the document is already optimized, the tool tells you instead of making it worse.
Frequently asked questions
How can I make a Word document smaller?
Drop the .docx here, choose a compression level and download the lighter version. Images are optimized and extras are removed.
Will the text or formatting change?
No. Only images, embedded fonts and thumbnails are optimized; the content stays exactly the same.
Does it work with .doc files?
Only .docx. Open the .doc in Word and save it as .docx first.
Is the file uploaded?
No. The compression happens inside your browser.
