Remove metadata, comments and tracked changes from Word
Before a Word document goes to a client or the other side, strip out what they should not see: author names, company, editing time, reviewer comments and forgotten tracked changes.
Cleaning happens entirely in your browser — the document never leaves your computer. Free.
What hidden data a Word file carries
Every .docx stores more than its text: who created it, who saved it last, the company name, total editing time, the names of every reviewer, custom properties, and revision IDs that link the file to earlier versions. Add comments that were never deleted and tracked changes that were never accepted, and a "final" document can reveal your negotiation history.
Open your file and RoseLab lists exactly what it found before changing anything.
How to clean a Word document before sending
Drop the .docx and click "Clean & download". Tracked changes are accepted — the text ends up as if you had clicked "Accept All" — comments and their author names are removed, and personal metadata is wiped. Text and formatting stay exactly as they were.
You also get the SHA-256 hash of the clean version, so you can later prove which file you sent.
Frequently asked questions
How do I remove the author name from a Word document?
Drop the .docx here and click "Clean & download". Author, last modified by, company and other personal properties are removed.
Does cleaning change my formatting?
No. Only revision marks, comments and metadata are touched; content and formatting stay the same.
Does it work with old .doc files?
No, only .docx. Open the .doc in Word and save it as .docx first.
Is the document uploaded?
No. The analysis and the cleaning happen in your browser.
